Generally, your tax information is confidential and the IRS will not disclose it to others. Sometimes, you may want to a third party, say a tax professional, lawyer, or bank loan officer, to review your tax information. Then you need to file the form 8821 to authorize a third party to inspect and/or receive your confidential information.

What is File 8821

Form 8821 is used to grant permission to the IRS to release your tax information to someone other than the taxpayer, such as an authorized representative, a tax professional, or a family member. The authorized representative or other third party can use this information to help you prepare your tax return, to respond to an IRS notice, or for other purposes as specified on the form.

Form 8821 is also used to delete or revoke prior tax information authorizations.
